Where to Start Redesigning Your Home
Redesigning your home from start to finish can sound like a pretty daunting task, which is totally normal! However, it doesn’t have to be, especially with help from our Cossart Design team. Our firm believes it's important to recognize our client’s personal wants and needs for their home’s design, and we’re here to help you every step of the way. Whether you have sentimental pieces that you still wish to be incorporated in your new design, or want a clean slate, we are ready to create the space of your dreams!
Focal points / entertaining spaces that get used most often (kitchen, living room):
Important factors to consider in home design are what rooms are most used and most important to you and your lifestyle. Starting at the heart of the home is an excellent idea. Several of our clients believe the main living spaces, such as the kitchen or great room, are central focal points. We recommend beginning where you spend most of your time with family and friends!
Bedrooms (primary bedroom first, guest rooms):
Relaxation is important, and life is too short to not be able to comfortably relax in your own room! The primary bedroom is a great place to start redesigning if you’re looking to treat yourself, especially if the kitchen or living room renovation sounds too overwhelming to begin with. You do so much outside of your home for others, whether it's at work or for your family or friends, so why not do something for yourself by curating your personal space for you to peacefully unwind every night? From paint colors, wallpaper and window treatments, to custom bedding and accessories, we are ready to help you make your retreat picture perfect.
If you love to host friends and family, creating welcoming guest rooms are a must! As a host, you want your guests to feel comfortable. “Make yourself at home” should be an easy task for guests to do! You don’t necessarily need to go overboard with design and decor for your guest rooms. Simple, elevated alterations to your space can make a huge impact on your guest’s experience. You can always start small, with some new bedding or perhaps a fun wallpaper, or you can go all in and do a full room makeover. Whichever it may be, just remember to show some love to your wonderful guests by first showing some thought to their room!
Bathrooms and utility rooms:
When thinking of redesigning your home, your bathrooms and utility/laundry rooms may not be your top concern. However, these spaces are still crucial aspects to everyday living! We believe that when it comes to design, every little detail matters – redesigning these smaller spaces make your home more appealing (and doing chores more enjoyable!). Don’t forget, it’s important to remember that you don’t have to completely gut all your bathrooms or laundry rooms to update them, either! Sometimes, elevating your space with a textured or patterned wallpaper, new paint colors, updating your hardware, or replacing your lighting are easy ways to make an old space feel new again.
Personal spaces (home office, library, studio, formal seating room):
Personal spaces can be viewed like a wow factor to your home. Everyone has a different preference or aesthetic as to what these rooms and spaces might feel or look like, and that’s what makes homes so personable and fun! Maybe you want to transform an old room into a home office, create a study space for your kids, or even make that empty corner in your house a cozy reading nook – whatever the project may be, redesigning spaces to make them more functional for you and your family is never a bad idea, we encourage you to!
Outdoor spaces:
Do you enjoy spending time outside? Why not create an oasis tailored to you right at home! We always remind our clients that interior design is not only limited to your indoor spaces. Some people use their outdoor patios to escape the busyness of everyday life and find their inner-peace in nature, sipping their morning coffee or tea. Others use their patios to host huge gatherings with loved ones, as casual as a neighborhood get together, to as formal as black tie events. Whatever the occasion, there are countless ways to design your patio to fit your needs and we are here to help! The Cossart Design team is known to enjoy a cup of coffee + book or an evening cocktail hour outdoors!
No matter what area of the home you’re wanting to recreate, remember, there’s no real rules to what parts of your home that you should design first or how to design them, merely guidelines and suggestions! Ultimately, doing what will make you most comfortable and the space most functional should be the top priority of your home design. From room layout and planning, to colors, fabrics, upholstery, and accessory choices, we are here to help set the tone and curate the perfect aesthetic for your project. We can’t wait to walk alongside you through the design process! Our team is here to help make your redesign dreams a reality. Schedule your design consultation with us now!
